Chocolate Peanut Butter Chunk Ice Cream

Do you remember those commercials for Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups?  The one where two people are walking along, enjoying their day in the park, eating their snack of choice

apparently, not looking where they were going.  Because…

KABLAM!

You got your chocolate in my peanut butter!

Don’t you wonder why no one ever questioned why some person was just eating a big ole tub of peanut butter.

In public.

The one thing they were right about was that chocolate and peanut butter go together like… bagels and {vegan} cream cheese, chips and salsa, or mashed potatoes and gravy.

They just fit.

It took me a long time to make a successful batch of vegan ice cream.  I really struggled with it for quite a while actually.  I would try a recipe and it would never turn out exactly how I wanted it and so I would give up, lose faith that I could make something as good as I could get in the store.

But I kept trying.

And trying

And trying…

My ice cream maker got a very good work out.  By no means am I an expert in making ice cream.  But like I said in an earlier post… I really like it.  So I keep trying.

Once I kind of figured out a good base to all the ice creams, I started playing with flavors.

This one is just fun.

It reminds me of my childhood.  It’s one of those flavors that you might not pick at first glance, but when you have it, you love it.

I hope after these few days of posting ice creams… you’ll be inspired to make your own.

And…

hopefully, I can assist with that.

Don’t forget that I am giving away a Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker.  It’s a really exciting giveaway!  All you need to do is make a comment… you can comment on each post and each one is an entry.  You can comment just once, if you want.  You can only comment once per post, though.

Today… the question is:

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE ICE CREAM AS A CHILD?

Chocolate Peanut Butter Chunk Ice Cream

How exciting! I LOVE making ice-cream and my family loves eating it, fortunately! I have never seen a recipe for a vegan ice-cream so am definitely going to give this one a try – you can’t go wrong with the chocolate and peanut butter combination.

Lezanne - November 16, 2011 - 12:36 pm

PS – My favourite ice-cream has and always will be – CHOCOLATE!!

Kasey - November 16, 2011 - 5:56 pm

The only way I like peanut butter in sweets is if it’s combined with dark chocolate! This sounds fantastic.

Kerry - November 16, 2011 - 6:05 pm

My favorite kind of ice-cream as a kid was chocolate with lots of toppings. I love making my own ice-cream. My current favorite is a dark chocolate french ice-cream I discovered recently (non-vegan).

Kerry - November 16, 2011 - 6:05 pm

Love the photography by the way.

Mint chip is the childhood favorite, and probably still will be as I enter adulthood!

Lynne Knowlton - November 16, 2011 - 10:12 pm

I loved TIGER ICE CREAM when I was a kid AND I am old enough to remember the peanut butter and chocolate commercial. Great flashback to my childhood ! Thanks for that !! xx

hailey - November 16, 2011 - 10:52 pm

When I was a kid, my favorite ice cream was chocolate and pb!

hmmm, well, when I was little I had a really serious dairy allergy so I didn’t get to eat ice cream a lot. I always had to have sorbet because there was not really such a thing as vegan ice cream at the ‘ole parlor in Casper, WY or Bakersfield, CA… lol! But when I DID get to have ice cream as a kid I LOVED bubble gum. Gross now. hehe. PS- I want to WIN! ;)

This looks awesome! I have only just recently tried peanut butter (surprising, I know, but I wasn’t exposed to peanut butter growing up in England) and I think that this ice-cream would be great for my next adventure with it.

My favourite ice-cream as a kid was mint chocolate chip. Actually, it still is my favourite!

hillary - November 18, 2011 - 12:59 pm

And like a mind reader, you post a peanut butter and chocolate ice cream recipe. Looks divine! Let’s see, I would say probably mint chocolate chip has been an enduring favorite for as long as I can remember.

This looks delicious. Moosetracks ice cream was my favorite as a child. It’s vanilla ice cream with a fudge swirl and mini chocolate peanut butter cups!

Moya - November 18, 2011 - 10:33 pm

My favourite ice cream when I was a child was rum and raisin and it reminds me of holidays with my family.

Julie Camacho - November 18, 2011 - 11:37 pm

I will definately be trying this because these are my favorite flavors!

Terri Keys - November 18, 2011 - 11:51 pm

I don’t have a lot of money so I bought a ice cream maker at a thrift store and bought all the stuff to make it when, it didn’t even work 8 ( . Even tho I never made ice cream beforeI am all into creating my own creation besides your chocolate and peanut butter kind. Ice cream is my weakness

Richa@HobbyandMore - November 19, 2011 - 2:01 am

Chocolate anything :)

Looks Fantastic! I am a spinning Instructor, and I have been vegan for 4.5 years.I have members of my 3 classes watching Forks over Knives, and I recently did a Sunshine Burger and Quinoa tasting after class. So many people think being vegan means walking outside and eating a bush, and nothing could be farther from the truth. This is the type of dish that, after having a garden Herb Sunshine Burger wrapped in Swiss chard with lettuce, tomato, avocado basil and a squeeze of lime, some Quinoa with mint, pine nuts and 101 cookbooks magic sauce, would bring their taste-buds to a euphoric conclusion!!

Sophie - November 21, 2011 - 11:44 pm

I loved and still love vanilla ice cream.

Kimber - November 22, 2011 - 1:09 am

My favourite ice cream as a child was mint chocolate chip or strawberry (in my pre-vegan days). Now I quite enjoy So Delicious coconut milk ice cream – pretty much any flavour!!
