Cherry Almond Sorbetto

There are a list of reasons that I have been a bit absent from posting recipes… some of them good, some of them bad… all of then not necessary to share.  Just know that I am not gone and missing forever.  Simply put, my use of the time in a day is having to go through a bit of readjustment.  As soon as I figure out a manageable schedule, I’m sure I will back here more consistently.

I actually have four recipes sitting in photoshop awaiting my return to process, complete and post.  So… be warned… a sugar rush is set to arrive!

One thing I have managed to handle for myself, however, is a new desk.

oh. my. goodness.  I had no clue of the value of a functional workspace.

I had been using a desk of my grandmother’s.  I have no idea how old, but old, nonetheless.  Although, it was not the age that was bothersome, but the detail of the style that made for many a bruised knee.  I was never completely comfortable at the desk.  When it comes right down to it, I need to be comfortable at my work space for the simple reason that if I want to be effective and successful, I need to be able to sit for long periods of time without the constant urge to get up and go somewhere else.

All of this has been fixed with a simple, modern desk from IKEA.

Not only have I stopped banging my knees, the desktop is now spacious and clean and lets me function without feeling crapped and cluttered.  In a mere twelve hours, it has simultaneously made my mind feel spacious and clean.  And, that is worth every penny of the whole sixty dollars spent.

In other news, it’s cherry season.

Like the new desk, this sorbetto is clean and uncluttered.  Four ingredients, a few hours of prep, and you have a refreshing treat for the hot summer days. I promise you, one scoop is enough to leave you feeling satiated and well taken care of.  Adapt this to any flavor cherry you want to try.  The almond adds a lovely depth of flavor and is such a wonderful complement to the sweetness of the cherry.

I have a belief that everyone should have ice cream in their freezers, at all times.  It has no rational basis, except for the fact that I love ice cream and never say no to it.  Seriously, never.  This is one of those frozen treats that is so easy that here is no excuse to not have a fresh supply all summer long.

I know I plan to have a batch at the ready for the entire season!

I have seen feedback that my recipe cards are not as helpful as I intend them to be.  People have shared that what is seen on this loaded page is, at times, difficult to read.  I want to make sure, for those who are having a hard time, that you know there is a clickable pdf file always attached to each post.  I will start clearly labeling it as such.  It opens in a separate page, much larger, and reading and printing it should not be an issue.  Please let me know in the comments if it continues to be an issue and I will see what I can do about it.  Thank you!

This looks marvelous, Shelley. I’ve spent the morning working on my couch, as usual, because my vintage desk is not quite comfortable. It’s pretty, though!

I agree with you, ice cream should definitely be in one’s freezer year round. It’s perfect for those late night cravings or last minute desserts and this one sounds perfect for the season.

The finished color of this sorbet is beautiful! I’m the same way about my workspace. I worked without a desk for all of grad school and was completely comfortable with it, but now that I do have a desk, I just can’t stand clutter on it.

Exactly! I love the idea of my grandma’s desk… antique, the nostalgia of it… but I just wasn’t productive. Then I would sit on my couch and inevitably turn on Netflix. Not good.

Thanks Jane! I’ve missed being here. I should get back into the swing of things this week and post regularly, again. Looking forward to being creative in the kitchen and behind my camera ;-)
