about me

I always get writer’s block when it comes to this page!

Seriously… almost a week has passed since I started developing this site and I still haven’t written anything.  Uh-oh.  Does not bode well.

ok.

think.

think.

think.

My name is Shelley and my cat is currently blocking the delete key with his tail.  This is my life.

The story is too long to tell and everyday is a new beginning anyway.  So, here we are.  I cook.  I take photos.  I dream up fun spaces to live in and clothes to wear while living there.  It has always been a private affair, but I decided to start sharing cause, why not, everyone else seems to be.

Hopefully you will see my cooking and photos get better with time.  You can drop me an email any time and say hello shelley (at) rosewaterandthyme (dot) com.

I’m also on twitter: @rosewaterthyme..

Here’s my bio… it’s silly

Formally educated in forensics and biochemistry, many people think a transition to the culinary world is an odd move.  But, Shelley might disagree with you.  Having left the biotechnology industry over 12 years ago, she has been making her way with jobs in restaurants, as a chocolatier, owning a small catering company and a small vegan cookie company, Ingredients (www.justrealingredients.com).  She spends her free time posting on her blog Rosewater and Thyme, where her two loves of photography and cooking can come to life.  The rest of her free time is spent in Los Angeles with her boyfriend, their friends and family, but most importantly, with their two crazy animals.

Frequently asked questions:

What camera and lens do you use?

I have a Nikon D5100.  My most frequently used lens is my 50mm.  I LOVE this lens.  I shoot in RAW and think everyone else should start doing this too… changes how you work with your photos.  I use Camera RAW and Photoshop to edit all my pics.  I shoot using natural light.  By no means, am I a pro.  However, the only way you can ever get good at anything is to practice.  So, I practice and practice everyday.  Hopefully you will see me improve with time!

Can I hire you for a photography job?

Of course!  I would love that! Get in touch with me at shelley (at) rosewaterandthyme (dot) com.  I do not take on any big projects, as I am just starting out.  But, let’s chat and we can see if it works out to both our benefits.

May I use one of your photos?

All of the photos on this site are taken by me unless otherwise noted.  If it is one of my pics, please feel free to use it on another website, but I ask that you give proper credit where credit is due.  Please link back to me as the original source.

May I advertise on your site?

But, of course!  I won’t accept promotional fees or goods from anyone I don’t 100% support and stand behind the product. But, I am happy to have a conversation about it.  If we think the relationship, would be a good fit, then great!  If not, no hard feelings… we just weren’t a good match.

Any other questions, please feel free to email me or send me a tweet.  I am up for recipe requests, or just having a nice conversation over tea.

Thank you so much for visiting my site!

I only discovered you website last night!
I’ve been trolling through your blogs/recipes ever since. have to say, I love your style. The beiginning of each post makes me want to read more. :) What a wonderfully creative soul you all.
Now, if only I didn’t have three small children (no, really I wouldn’t give them up for the world!) I may have half a chance of making some of these dishes in the foreseeable future. Regardless, I’ll continue to drool and recreative as time allows.
Thank you so for sharing with us.

Hi! Thank you for your delicious recipes. My son is vegetarian, wants to be vegan, and I try my best to make good food for him and the rest of the family. Can be hard – my husband and daughter are not, and don’t want to be, vegetarians – so I need inspiration! Thank you again and, by the way, your photos are lovely!

rosewaterthyme - April 25, 2012 - 12:13 am

I’m sorry, Malea, I don’t have a way to subscribe as of yet. I will put some more energy to it and let you know when it is ready. Thanks!

I love your blog! I have been a vegetarian for several years and I am just dipping my toes in the water of veganism. Your recipes are inspiring and make me want to bolt to the store, even though I just went shopping. Thank you for your posts! I look forward to your next creation. Sincerely, Jessica
